We have received lot of questions about Stimulus check even related to first stimulus check that they never received it. IRS previously had not issued any clear rulings but now have made it clear on some issues. I have listed few Q&A below:
Q. Will I receive the stimulus check if I only receive SSI or other similar benefits?
A: Yes, as long as you meet the income threshold (less than $75,000 as an individual or $150,000 as a couple).
Q. How will I get these payments?
A. Most will receive direct deposits as IRS already have that information. If not, then you will receive paper check. IRS has also start issuing payments via debit card.
Q. Will my check be taxed or garnished like for child support?
A. No
Q. I have not received my first stimulus check, what do I need to do?
A. You will be able to claim it as a Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 tax return so long you truly qualify to receive such a payment.
Q. I checked on IRS website 'Get My Payment' and it says Payment Status # 2 - Not available? Why?
A. It means you will not receive Second Economic Impact Payment and you need to claim as Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 Tax Return.
IRS has advised that if people have not received Stimulus Check they should file their 2020 tax return electronically and claim Recovery Rebate Credit on their tax return.
Q. I have not received my stimulus check because I do not file or usually are not required to file? What should I do?
A. If you are eligible for the payment and have not received it, Recovery Rebate Credit may be claimed on the 2020 tax return.
Q. Can I still use IRS Non-Filers tool to get my stimulus check?
A. No, it is no longer available and you will have to file your 2020 tax return and claim it via Recovery Rebate Credit.
